After the results of club elections, the new e-board of KSC Film Society was ushered in by junior and President Mariah Rodriguez-Costa and Elmo of Putnam Theater.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, KSC Film Society held its annual e-board elections with departures looming in the spring semester. Usually elections are held in the spring semester; however, club Treasurer Ben Martins, Vice President Tyler Desjardins and Rodriguez-Costa–all senior film majors–are set to graduate in May, leaving positions open for members to vie for.
The election process features brief speeches from the candidates on why they are running, with the current e-board voting for president, treasurer, secretary and social media manager and the vice president being popularly elected by general members of the club. The election saw a promotion, a reelection and three general members who will ascend to the e-board once the next academic year begins.
Junior Alonzo Smith ran for reelection to the social media manager position. Smith said they were excited to continue working on the e-board and that it has been very rewarding.
Junior Caitlyn Erban, secretary and president-in-training, was awestruck by her win.
“Freshman year, I was scared to run for secretary and last year I almost didn’t run. So now, being president, it’s very jarring. I wasn’t expecting that to happen,” said Erban. “I love this theater [Putnam Theater], I love running it [and] I look forward to continuing the legacy.”
Junior May Cassidy took her first leap onto the club e-board as vice president-in-training.
“I was kind of toddling between [running for secretary or vice president] for a while. I don’t really know what made me decide on vice president, but I am very happy that I won and can be on the e-board,” said Cassidy.
First-years Jay Conwill and Tony Hoffman, secretary-in-training and treasurer-in-training, respectively, made big leaps into the club during their first semesters on campus.
“I really admired the work of the [soon-to-be] former secretary, Cait,” Conwill said when asked about why they ran. “[Cait] always, in the emails that she does for the club, puts a lot of zest in [them] and I wanted to continue that work.”
Hoffman, who is self-described as handling money well, ran to join the e-board.
“I know that treasurer is not a very high, coveted position,” said Hoffman. “I just thought I would enjoy it. I wanted to be part of the e-board [and] wanted to do something for this club [to] be more involved.”
KSC Film Society meetings are held every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Putnam Theater and weekend screenings are held Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
