The Keene State Women’s Golf team won the first-ever Little East Conference Championship for the sport. In the first year of conference play for the Owls, they made their mark immediately in their conference with this win.
Jeff Timmer, head coach of the Owls, was named the first women’s golf LEC coach of the year. In Keene State’s fourth year as a program, Timmer led this Owls team to some of their best scoring rounds since becoming a program. Timmer commented on how this season felt and how the team feels overall after this championship win.
“It was a lot of fun, and I don’t want to use historic, but it was the inaugural Little East Championship and I think that’s something that we’re all excited about because it’s something that you just can’t take away,” Timmer said. “We’re the first ever Women’s Little East Golf Champions.”
Timmer also talked about this year’s group specifically and what went well for them on the course as a team.
“We had this awesome core that was able to practice together, nearly every single day of the week. It seems like the first three years we always had class time interruptions or you know the times were hard to come and car rides to the course, whatever it may be, there was always cases where we didn’t have the whole team together and I had a core group of six women that would come nearly every day together and work hard” said Timmer.
This was a very special group and season overall for the Owls 2025 Women’s Golf Team.
Junior Madison Mousley spoke on what it means to be the first team to win the LEC women’s golf championship
“It felt really good and we honestly still keep thinking about [how] it actually happened but to win the first ever is pretty amazing especially to come behind on the second day,” said Mousley.
The schedule and overall chemistry of the team were definitely emphasized throughout the entire season, with all of the athletes committing their time each and every day to continue to get better.
First-year Sadie Murray played a large role in the success of the 2025 women’s golf team. Receiving multiple awards and recognition from the league, Murray definitely stood out in her rookie season.
“Going into this season, especially as a freshman, I didn’t really know what to expect. I didn’t know what the season was going to bring, but you know we worked really hard as a team during practice and during some hard-fought matches,” said Murray.
Murray went on to explain how important Timmer was to the team’s success this season.
“Coach Timmer is very catering towards each player and each player’s needs, so if he sees us struggling with something he’ll come up to us in practice … he’s very invested in us,” said Murray.
