Chock Full O’ Notes (CFON), Keene State College’s long-running a cappella group hosted auditions in an effort to welcome members into the new performance season. Auditions were held over two separate sessions on Wednesday, Sept. 10 and Friday, Sept. 12 in room 112 of the Redfern Arts Center.

The audition process consisted of groupwide blending exercises to help auditionees feel comfortable, individual auditions which consisted of auditionees singing two 30-second segments of songs, a second blending exercise and a final range check.

According to junior and CFON President Kate Brackett, this year’s auditions saw an encouraging amount of enthusiasm. An estimated 25 auditionees participated over both nights.

“The auditions went really well. I feel like we had a much bigger turnout than we typically do, and we had a lot of interactions and sign-ups at the Student Involvement Fair,” said Brackett.

“I’m confident that we’re going to find the people we need. We already have a great foundation of existing members, and it’s really exciting that we’ll be able to grow our numbers and add to what we already have,” added Brackett.

“I love CFON, and it’s been my favorite part of Keene State so far. It’s where I’ve made some of my strongest friendships and it’s an awesome group that everyone should be able to audition for,” said Brackett.

According to junior and CFON Music Director Hailey Taylor, trying out and getting involved with the group is a rewarding experience.

“I think that you’ll find friends and people you wouldn’t expect to meet anywhere else. You never know who you’re going to bond with, and that’s what happens in groups like this,” said Taylor.

Taylor said CFON plans to run at least one concert at the end of each semester, as well as performing at the annual Pumpkin Festival.

“I would urge people to come to our performances to see the people on our campus bare their soul and do what they love, because it’s such a beautiful thing to be able to bond with people and share this sort of thing with people. I’m really excited to experience that with people this year,” said Taylor.

CFON will be hosting another round of auditions during the spring ‘26 semester.
