Keene State’s Men’s Soccer visited Russell Sage College in the Big Apple, handing the Gators their first loss of the season, dropping Russell Sage to 2-1 and improving Keene State to 2-0. KSC, which hasn’t let up a goal yet to start the season, started the first half in control. The Owls had pace, poise and confidence as they were on the attack for most of the game.
Despite only scoring one goal in the half — scored by sophomore midfielder Dorian Wilczynski and assisted by first-year forward Luke Hartshorn — Keene State dominated the margin. Keene had 10 more shot attempts than Russell Sage, with 17 to their seven. Even with all the fouls Keene State committed, the team still managed to gain and maintain the lead throughout the half.
The second half was much of the same for Keene State, as they set the tone with their aggression while Russell Sage committed three straight fouls. Keene continued to amp up their physicality as the game drew closer to the finish line. Junior forward Cristian Correa put the nail in the coffin, pushing the lead to 2-0 for the Owls, with sophomore forward Pierpaolo Gallardo picking up the assist.
Keene’s defense stood strong throughout, as the Owls allowed only three shots on goal the entire game.
Correa led Keene in almost every stat, with five shot attempts, including his goal mentioned earlier. First-year midfielder Tommaso Brivio attempted three shots as well. On the opposite sideline, Russell Sage forward John Lewis Whalen had two shot attempts, along with Zachary Bischoff.
The Owls will travel to Colby-Sawyer this Sunday at 11 a.m., as they look to build on their early undefeated record.
