KSC education students, as well as the community at large, had the chance to speak with alumni and education professionals at the 13th annual Inspiring Conversations in Education (ICE) Conference on Saturday, March 1 in Rhodes Hall’s S203.
The half-day conference was organized by the ICE Conference Committee of KSC’s Epsilon Pi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an educational honors society, and offered workshops and a keynote lecture to education students, primarily from KSC alumni who have experience in the education field.
KSC alum ‘94 and Keene High School’s career and technical education director Richard Towne Jr. served as the 2025 keynote speaker.
Towne kicked off the conference with a lecture about inspiring others through stories, where he told stories from his personal career in education.
Senior, KDP President and Executive Board Member of the ICE Conference Committee Marianne Mederos said Towne’s speech was inspiring.
“He’s worked in the education field for a very long time and is an alumni of Keene State, which is why it was so meaningful to have him as our speaker,” said Mederos.
“He’s actively working with high schoolers who want to be educators and working with the future educators of tomorrow, and it was a perfect fit to have him kick off our conference,” added Mederos.
Mederos expressed gratitude towards fellow members of the ICE Conference Committee and KDP for their efforts in organizing the event, as well as donors who helped make it possible.
“One of the unfortunate things about being an honors society is that we don’t receive a budget from Keene State College, so this conference is put on through the will of the students who try very hard to make it happen,” said Mederos.
“Our committee members and KDP members are out in the community looking for both physical donations for things like raffle baskets and monetary donations for things like food, and our presenters are so generous to present for free. They’re all very accomplished educators in their field, and they do this solely to help serve the Keene State education student body, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this happen,” added Mederos.
