At 2:40 p.m., there was an automatic fire alarm call to the Redfern Arts Center, according to fire mutual aid logs. After an initial sweep of the building by Keene Fire Department (KFD) and Swanzey Fire Department (SFD), the building was cleared for re-entry.
After the initial response to the alarm, there were two subsequent responses to the alarm system sounding, one by KFD and one by SFD respectively.
According to an email statement from Colin Burdick, assistant director of facilities services, the issue appears to be a faulty smoke detector in the duct work.
“There seems to be a faulty duct smoke that was setting off the fire alarm system. There was no smoke, dust, or debris found in the ductwork system, so we shut that air handler down in order to disconnect the assumed faulty duct smoke. We have notified our fire alarm vendor of the situation so we can get a replacement duct smoke detector,” stated Burdick.
Students said they were disgruntled from the repeated interruptions during instrumental practices and classes.
