The KSC Facilities Department has some upcoming projects planned for over winter break and into the spring semester. With the reconstruction at Carle Hall coming to an end, new undertakings will take its place.
Colin Burdick, the assistant director of the facilities department, provided an update on the facilities department and its plans for the future.
“For winter break specifically we’re looking to replace the failing fire alarms system in the Thorne Art Gallery,” Burdick said. “We are looking to replace seven V.A.V units in the student center. Those are essentially forced air control mechanisms to control the heating and cooling.”
“We are replacing locks in Pondside One,” Burdick went on. “And we’re replacing the elevator control in Redfern to get that updated.”
Isabelle Handy, the community director for Carle Hall, shared some input about the renovations being finished up there alongside any future projects.
“I think what’s fun about this building is that it has such an amazing identity,” Handy said. “The students that lived in this building last year loved living in this building. It was less about the space and more about the community. I think it’s a similar vibe to this year. These students have built a beautiful community in this building and now it gets to be more visible. If you had walked in at this time last year you would’ve been met with a bunch of brick walls and a big desk.”
“This is the building that I oversee. It’s the one that I am most aware of, but what I will say is that any kind of renovations or anything that would be published would be coming straight from community living. And as soon as the info would be ready, community living would let students know.”
Facilities Services Coordinator Katherine Davis and Facilities Project Manager Chris Cormier both referred back to Colin Burdick and declined to comment.
