The Keene State Women’s Ice Hockey team took to the ice on Friday, Nov. 8 for a battle with the Golden Bears of the University of Western New England (WNE).
WNE had the Owls on their heels from the get-go. First-year goaltender Makenna Montgomery had to make save after save, including multiple instances where she had to make multiple stops in a span of a few seconds. The Golden Bears opened the scoring 12 and a half minutes into the opening period, as Jenna Lynch put home a rebound for a power-play goal.
The second period was no different, as Lynch tallied her second halfway through the period that was almost identical to her first to give WNE a 2-0 lead. WNE was able to add on another goal with six seconds remaining in the frame, as Ziya Damas put one past Montgomery during 4-on-4 even strength play.
The Golden Bears recorded eleven shots on goal in the opening six minutes of the third period, but Montgomery was able to stop them all. With around ten minutes remaining, WNE added a fourth goal with AnnaBelle Calvanese burying a rebound for her first collegiate goal.
The Owls were not able to get one of their own, as they fell 4-0 to the Golden Bears and were outshot 52-27. Keene State is back in action on Friday, Nov. 15, as they travel to Rivier University.
