Keene State’s Swim and Dive team Captain Aaron Turgeon is a quiet voice but a strong presence for his team.
“I try to lead by example and I’ve always been like that, I was taught to always do your best and everyone will follow through and help. I’m also not the best with words so when I try to speak it doesn’t always come across the right way, so I show it through my actions,” said Turgeon.
Last season, at the LEC Championship, Turgeon set the meet record in the 100 IM with a time of 58.39. This season, he is helping lead his team in events and also as a captain out of the pool as well.
Head Coach Christopher Woolridge has been working at Keene State College for almost ten years now and is an alumnus.
“[Turgeon] just loves all aspects of the sport whether it be the training, the racing, the competition and then as far as his leadership style he’s a relaxed and confident individual who gets along with the guys,” Woolridge said.
According to Turgeon, he refuses to back down in a meet while also being a steady presence for everyone else around him
“For me, I want everyone to achieve their goals coming into LEC and also to keep people in the mindset of being focused on the big picture,” Turgeon said. “Trying to push the guys when we’re at the smallest for numbers while also creating a deeper relationship can be hard.”
During the team’s previous match on October 26 against Gordon College, Turgeon contributed to the Owl’s overall score with four first-place finishes helping Keene State come out on top with a win.
