Course registration is opening soon and students have been tasked with meeting with their advisors to discuss their plans for the upcoming semester.
Laura Provost, the registrar for Keene State, explained the preparation process for registration and some of the difficulties being worked out.
“The planning has been done with Student Academic Support Services (SASS) and their advisors and that seems to be going well,” Provost said. “We’re still waiting for the schedule to be finalized and make sure that we are staffed for that week to get people registered if they need to come in.”
Provost added, “The advisors in Academic Support Services are the ones that have been helping some students along with their advisors do their planning during registration. If they have issues, or they need to find a class, help finding out what they need to take, that kind of stuff.”
Some students in the Honors Program were not given the proper priority this year because of not being listed in the program’s database. Philip Barker, who works as head of the Honors Program, issued an apology regarding the mistake.
Barker said in an email statement to the Honors students affected, “At the beginning of this year, first-year Honors students weren’t marked as Honors in the registrar’s system. This means that I am not listed as one of your advisors in student planning and honors doesn’t show up on your progress page. It also means that when the Registrar’s office was assigning registration times for the Spring semester, they did not give first-year honors students the priority registration status that you are supposed to have. They are working to fix this now.”
Provost provided some additional information regarding the situation.
“Jennifer Zoll is the one who does the times and the department didn’t give us the information we needed,” Provost explained. “That’s why there was an error and she had to fix it.”
Zoll, the Registrar Specialist, was not available for an in-person interview but backed Barker’s response about the situation via email.
First-year Honors student Lee Gleason said they found the situation frustrating.
“I’ve had difficulty reaching out to my advisors,” Gleason said. “I’ve reached out to a few different people but haven’t had any luck. I got an updated registration time this past week, which was a day earlier than my past one.”
