Feminist Collective (FemCo) has endured a reconstruction of the club for this upcoming school year.
Since the club’s founders graduated in May, a new e-board was elected to take over the club. Keene State’s OwlNet website states, “The Feminist Collective is an organization dedicated to co-creating a space for healing, education, and meaningful change through a feminist lens.”
According to FemCo’s new president, senior Iz Falcetti, the club’s reconstruction is to intensify and build upon these goals. Falcetti said, “We’re really trying to make the club appealing while also keeping the morals and values we as a club hold. I think a big thing I’ve tried to emphasize is that you don’t need to be female by identity or look to be in FemCo. I think it’s important that everyone joins if they want to.”
When asked to highlight the club’s reconstruction and goals, Treasurer Fynn Stauber said, “It is important to make sure we maintain the services that FemCo has, and with all of the discourse about women’s rights, it is really important to be able to provide those resources on the ground level.” Falcetti described to The Equinox in an email statement about pre to post-reconstruction of the club, stating, “It was relatively the same, though we are trying to bring a lot of things that the club used to do, such as restocking the bathrooms with menstrual products and allowing our members to tell us ideas and things they’d like to see from us. We want to make sure the club thrives and, especially during an election year, we find a club like FemCo to be very important for everyone.” Vice President Haley Lincoln told The Equinox about prior club participation and how she and the rest of the e-board hope to improve the club’s turnout.
“Last year, we had a few people at the beginning but it dwindled down but we are hoping to get it to a point where we can be sustainable and keep our numbers up as much as we can,” said Lincoln. “It is not about the quantity it is about the quality of the people, and make sure they are interested in what we have to talk about.”
FemCo is currently meeting in the Cultural Center on Mondays at 4 p.m. Falcetti stated, “If that changes, I highly recommend following our Instagram (@keene_femco), which is where we’d update everyone not on our email list. It’s also where we’ll be posting about our events.”
