The Owls Men’s Soccer team was back in action at home on Saturday, Sept. 28 against the Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) Warriors.
In the midst of a five-game losing streak, tied for the longest in program history, the Owls were in desperate need of a win, especially since this was an inter-conference game.
The Warriors, who were also winless in conference play, came into Keene with a chip on their shoulder, preparing for a rematch of the 2019 Little East Conference (LEC) championship game, which Keene won.
The game started out slowly, with no scoring in the first half, though there were multiple chances for either team. The Keene State Dance Team featured the halftime break.
Both goalkeepers continued to shine, with KSC’s senior goalkeeper Regan Racicot and ECSU’s Nathan Yeich making four saves each. However, the Owls broke the ice late in the 81st minute, courtesy of sophomore forward Alex Nicolas, as he fired a shot from the top of the Warriors’ box that found its way to the back of the net.
The Owls were able to hold on for the remaining eight minutes, as they snapped their losing skid, and won their second straight game against the Warriors.
Keene State moved to 2-5-1 overall, and 1-1 in the LEC this season. The Owls’ next game will be home again facing the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 5, for another LEC matchup.
