A new club held their first event of the semester: a pizza social.
This pizza social was held on Thursday, Sept. 12, in the science center, room 264.
Students from environmental and sustainability majors recently came together to create the “Environmental and Sustainability Studies Club.” The club, which started in 2023, invites students with Environmental and Sustainability majors or minors to join and attend meetings.
“Tonight, our pizza social is our first event of the year. We are a new organization, and we are looking for support from members. We are an academic support group,” said junior club President Lena Goins. “It took a while for us to get started, but this is our first event for people to get to know each other. We are trying to create community within the major or minor.”
The club’s website reads, “The purpose of the Environmental and Sustainability Club is to provide peer support to students in environmental and sustainability studies programs or those interested in pursuing studies in the department. To encourage and provide professional development in the environmental and sustainability field. Membership is open to any Keene State College student interested in the environment and sustainability.”
At this club’s meeting, students will receive advice and validation regarding their major. This club is also an outlet for making friends in the environmental and sustainability major and is a great way to connect with those in your classes and those with the same interests.
“We are trying to meet and have a peer support group to foster growth for development skills working on resumes and trying to go to conferences for students all pursuing similar degrees since it is a small major,” said senior Vice President Zach Leno. “I know everything can seem intimidating so having a support group is something I wanted to help bring to environmental studies.”
“Undecided freshmen get to be involved with the Environmental program. We started this club last year, and I didn’t know any other people in my major, so we started this to build community,” said junior treasurer Jessica Timothy.
The club might be mainly tailored to students in the environmental and sustainability program, students of any major can attend meetings.
