The American Red Cross hosted a blood drive open to Keene State students as well as to the community on Friday, Sept. 13 held in the Student Center’s Mabel Brown Room.
The blood drive was set up so that anyone who showed up to donate would have to show proof of identification at the booth set up, in the beginning before one would walk into the Mabel Brown Room.
The form of identification that is acceptable is a driver’s license. This is set up so volunteers can have a record of people who donated. Volunteers were taking turns sitting and checking people in as well as directing them to the people they needed to see to start the process
“I’m just a part of the club they have here at Keene State, I guess it’s cool to do because if you donate blood you can save a life,” said first-year Olivia Pollard. She also has donated blood once before in her life she stated.
“I have never donated blood before, I am also just a volunteer here “ Iona Macfarlane stated as well as “but I am happy to be involved in any way”
It was a slow beginning for the American Red Cross. At 11 a.m. when it opened, only 4 people had entered. However, the event ran untl 4 p.m. which gave people plenty of time throughout the day to stop by.
“I do my best to drive out support, encourage sign-ups and make sure the blood drives are a success,” stated Account Manager Michael Bolduc.
The main reason to start this “I was looking for a job where I can feel good everyday,” and the American cross is doing great work across the country everyday,” stated Bolduc.
Bolduc has started working at the American Red Cross a month ago and has donated “every 56 days, every 2 months.” He said his role is the account manager donor recruitment. He even provided a little background of himself, ever since he was little he has always given blood. The American Red Cross also goes around different schools and does the same thing everywhere around the world.
