My friends, last weekend was the time to be a film lover. One of the greatest films ever created was screened at the Putnam Theater, S.S. Rajamouli’s “RRR.”
The film is about two freedom fighters in pre-independent India. One is a fearless warrior, while the other is a fearful officer. While one is trying to save his tribe from the British governor, the other is tasked to capture him. Without knowing each other’s motives, the two become best friends.
I have seen this film three times before and each time felt brand new. The film feels like a cold glass of water on a hot summer day. It is refreshing, fun, violent, and beautiful.
While it is about independence and freedom, it also has romance and brotherhood. The two main characters, Ram and Bheem, are hard to dislike. They are both fighting for a cause they believe in and are loyal to those they love most.
One thing I would like to talk about are the action sequences in this film. It is unlike anything I have ever seen. There are tiger fights, motorcycle fights, fire versus water and even a dance number. The whole film was thought in great detail and I could just tell that there was so much love put into it.
The film won an Oscar for best original song, “Naatu Naatu,” which just splashes energy on your face. I also love how the film’s title stands for “Rise Roar Revolt,” which perfectly describes this film.
I could go on for hours talking about this masterpiece but I will not. I give this film five out of five stars. While it has a heavy runtime, it feels like five minutes. Knowing how hard the Film Society has worked to get this film made the viewing experience all the better. If you could not catch it this past weekend, please try to find time to watch it on your own.
