A search for a new endowed position within the Holocaust and Genocide Studies (HGS) program is underway.
Chair of the search and Professor of Politics Phil Barker said the search is “going great.”
“We’ve got a committee together, we’ve put an ad together and posted the job and we’ve started receiving applications,” Barker said.
According to the University System of New Hampshire (USNH) job listing for the position, the starting salary is $100,700 on a tenure track.
The position’s title is listed as, “Cohen Chair for Holocaust & Genocide Studies.”
Barker said he was not able to share how many applicants have applied, but said he hopes to bring candidates on campus in the near future.
Additionally, Barker said, “Ideally by the end of the [academic] year, the campus would know who is in that position.”
An endowed position differs from a typical faculty position in the sense that it is funded by an outside source like a donor or a benefactor, James Beeby, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said.
Since the previous endowed chairs, Elisa Von Joeden-Forgey, fall 2023, and James Waller, spring 2023, the position has been vacant, according to previous Equinox reporting from September 2023.
Beeby said the search was officially approved in the fall of 2023.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for the college. [Waller] was an amazing faculty member with an international reputation and he had a wonderful career at Keene State before he moved a professional advancement,” Beeby said. “We’re excited to have someone who can contribute as much or more as [Waller] was able to.”
