Keene State’s Art Honors Society, Kappa Pi, hosted an art sale on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and Thursday, Feb. 29.
The sale was held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. both days in the L.P. Young Student Center and featured work from a number of Kappa Pi members. The proceeds from the sale will be split between the individual artists and the Kappa Pi organization.
Kappa Pi is run by senior Daisy Gaikwad, with Art and Design Department Chair Jonathan Gitelson serving as faculty advisor. Gaikwad is also the society’s founder.
“[Gaikwad] has been really driving the ship,” said Gitelson. “She’s been the mastermind behind all of this.”
Keene State originally had an Art Collective as a group for art students, but Gaikwad said she did not feel the same sense of accomplishment.
“I wanted there to be a space for the artists and designers in the school to feel recognized for their work and have something that they can be proud of and show their parents,” she said.
Gaikwad also sold some of her work at the sale, with a popular piece being a poster she had designed for Bingo and Trivia Night in the fall.
“I knew that that was a huge hit for some people on campus,” she said. “Also some of my friends asked me if I would sell that for them again, so I sold my Hootie’s Eras Tour poster.”
Overall, the art sale raised $200 to be split between the members and the society. According to Gaikwad, there are no current plans for the money.
“[The] e-board and I haven’t met to discuss what we’re going to do with the funds,” she said. “We are hoping to put it towards resources for the society.”
According to Gaikwad, the event received a positive response from the community.
“I would say that we had a pretty good turnout for the sale,” she said. “I feel like we made a lot more than I was expecting to make, so I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.”
Gaikwad also hopes to have another art sale in April.
“We have quite a little bit of artwork left [from the sale] just from across the members who submitted work,” she said. “I’m going to confer with [the] e-board and my members and see if they would like to do it again [a sale].”
