Students at Keene State College shared their thoughts on the 2024 Grammys results.
The 66th annual Grammys were held on Feb. 4, and featured the best artists and compositions from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 15, 2023. The most prestigious awards are for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Record of the Year. This year’s Grammys was the highest viewed since 2020, according to Statista.com.
Andrea Miranda, a freshman graphic design major, said they did not know too much about the Grammys results, but heard about the Barbie soundtrack winning awards, making up for the disappointment at the Oscars.
“People missed the point of the message of the movie [at the Oscars],” said Miranda. “So it’s nice to know they got recognition.”
One Keene State sophomore said the Barbie soundtrack was his favorite of the year.
“I really like how Barbie won,” he said. “Because Billie Eilish’s song was really important. It sends a message to everybody that there is more to life than what you are expected to do. “What was I made for” that’s what it was called.”
“Barbie The Album” won the award for best compilation soundtrack for visual media, according to Grammy.com.
Magdelana Lanoue, a freshman holocaust and genocide studies major, shared her thoughts on what she remembered of the results.
“I know Lana Del Ray won almost nothing and the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack slaps.” she said. “Producer of the year non-classical should have been Metro Boomin thank you very much. I don’t know who Jack Antonoff is but Metro Boomin? That’s my guy.”
Metro Boomin, an American records producer, was nominated for three separate awards this year and won none. Lana Del Ray had 11 nominations, with zero wins.
