The City of Keene has elected someone new to be the head of the Elm City.
During the Tuesday, Oct. 7 election, Jay Kahn, former District 10 state senator and vice president of finance and planning for Keene State, won the election by a landslide. Kahn earned 91.4% of the vote, which amounts to 2,609 votes, according to The Keene Sentinel.
Kahn’s opponent in the race, Bill “Bradford” Hutchinson, received 245 votes or 8.6%, according to The Sentinel.
“I want to thank the hundreds of people who supported me with signs on their lawns and attending house parties, and the scores of people that volunteered to canvass and knock on doors, make phone calls and stand at polling places. That has helped me to feel well-supported by my community,” Kahn told The Sentinel.
According to the Kahn for Mayor website, Kahn originally decided to run because he believes that he could add value to the mayor’s role.
“I intend to use my community, state and national relationships to form partnerships to advance our community and regional needs,” the website states.
Kahn’s term as mayor begins at the start of the new year.
Additionally, city council races were held throughout the wards of Keene.
According to an article by The Sentinel, incumbents largely kept their seats on the council.
Two ballot questions relating to municipal primaries in the city charter were passed, The Sentinel reported.
