Keene State Field Hockey destroyed Plymouth at home on Friday, Oct. 6., with a final score of 2-4. This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but got moved to Friday which kicked off SAAC’s mental health awareness weekend for Oct. 6-8.
Plymouth State scored the first goal three minutes into the first quarter, by Plymouth State’s Taylor Healey. Seconds later, Plymouth tried again, putting pressure on KSC’s goalie, sophomore Clara Gorman, but Gorman saved it and Keene State sent the ball back in motion. At seven minutes into the first quarter, Keene State scored their first goal by Junior Irini Stefanakos, her eighth goal of the season. The first quarter ended with both teams tied 1-1.
The second period started and Keene State put pressure on Plymouth. Two shots by Keene failed to make it in Plymouth’s net, but at 17:12, first-year Grace Seabury assisted sophomore Grace Bazin in scoring the second goal for Keene State College. Plymouth tried to make a dent; after firing off four more shots till the end of the period, it was unsuccessful and the period ended 2-1 Keene.
Keene State retaliated at the start of the third period, with multiple shots rushing Plymouth’s goalie Kaly Antonucci. Antonucci was not able to stop all of Keene State’s shots and at 37:34, Bazin scored her eleventh goal of the season, bringing the score to 3-1 Keene. Plymouth State returned the favor by scoring five minutes later. As they tried to make a comeback, sophomore Kalina Piasecki made the fourth and final goal for the Owls putting the score at 2-4 Keene.
In the fourth period, Plymouth attempted to score, but Keene State took the win, making them 8-5, 2-1 LEC with Plymouth now, 6-3, 1-1 in the conference.
