The start of the fall season at Keene State College can conjure the feeling of that first spike of autumnal chill, the warm taste of cinnamon cider donuts and the crush of leaves beneath students’ feet as they journey to their classes.
The Equinox checked in with students to learn what their personal favorite parts of autumn are while living and being on campus. Many students shared that their favorite parts about the fall season lie in the weather and scenery changes that occur in the shift from summer.
“I think I enjoy the breeze that starts to set in around this time of year,” first-year Jacob Velez shared.
“I like the leaves starting to change color around campus. It’s a nice change of scenery,” said first-year Brooke Mastrullo.
First-year Cooper Glennon echoed Mastrullo’s sentiment, saying, “The leaves changing colors is cool. I enjoy seeing them while I walk with a breeze.”
Senior Austyn Clang also shared that his favorite part about autumn is “the color of the leaves,” while fellow senior Grace Neff said, “my favorite thing about fall is when the colors of the leaves start changing and we get to see them all around campus.”
Other students shared that they enjoy the start of their favorite sports during this time of year.
“What I love the most about fall is all the sports coming back,” Senior Haley Hagler said.
“My favorite thing about fall is having the football season come back,” first-year Leo Formato shared.
For some students, the start of fall brings an anticipation for festive meals.
“I like fall food coming back,“ said first-year Brayden McGrath.
“My favorite part about fall is going apple-picking,” first-year Shelby Yager shared.
One of the most prominent parts of the fall season is the holidays that occur within it. Between Halloween and Thanksgiving, more students gave a shoutout to Halloween and the festivities and traditions that come with celebrating it.
First-year Lillian Sibona shared that she likes carving pumpkins, an activity synonymous with the Halloween holiday.
Senior Matthew Hassan said that his favorite part about fall is getting to celebrate and pick out a costume for Halloween.
“I also enjoy Halloween coming back,” Velez remarked.
While many animals hibernate when fall and winter cast a chill over the New England climate, owls in the wild and on campus will stay moving and thriving.
