Keene State’s Men’s Soccer team tied in their game against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs (UMass Dartmouth) on Saturday, Sept. 19. Keene entered this game with a 1-5 record, looking to turn around the rough start to the season after losing the previous game against Salve Regina 4-0.
In the opening eight minutes of the game, the Owls made four shots, though Corsairs’ goalkeeper Edward Corliss made two saves to prevent any scoring. Owls’ first-year goalkeeper Tommaso Lorrai made a save in the first half, one of two he would have in this game. However, 28 minutes into the game, UMD found enough momentum and managed to make a shot that ended scoring, making the game 1-0 in favor of the Corsairs. The rest of the first half saw Keene try and bring the game back on even ground, though all they mustered was a shot by first-year midfielder Jorge Zaura to take it to the end.
The opening of the second half saw UMD apply pressure early on, though no success was found there. Over the course of the next twelve minutes, Keene flipped the pressure back onto the Corsairs, having five shots in total, though two were saved by Corliss. With about twenty-seven minutes left in the game, junior defender Jack Corby sent a kick to another defender, sophomore Pietro Bergozza, who subsequently found sophomore midfielder Tommaso Brivio. Brivio found himself near the opponent’s goal line and sent the shot in, bringing Keene State on the board with a score of 1-1. Not long after, both teams traded shots on goal, both goalkeepers making saves for their respective teams. After that, this game saw back-and-forth possessions by either team in attempts to break the tie, though no one could capitalize and the game ended with a final score of 1-1.
With another game in the books, the Owls move on to their next game, traveling away to host the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 12:00 PM.
