Keene State’s Men’s Soccer team lost 0-2 in its matchup against John Jay College on Sunday, Sept. 6. Before this match, Keene had an 1-1 record overall at this beginning part of the season, having lost the previous game 2-1 against Babson College the day before.
The first period of play didn’t see much action. Roughly 14 minutes into the game, senior forward Esteban Henao made a shot against John Jay’s goalie, Davio Rossi-Levin, which he saved; he would end the game with three saves total which contributed to their win. A minute later, first-year midfielder Federico Spagnuolo made a shot that went out to the left. A third attempt to score was made by first-year forward Edoardo Tambini to the top right, although it was again saved by Rossi-Levin. John Jay made two shot attempts during the first period, though neither bore fruit and after 45 minutes the period ended, both teams scoreless.
The second period started similar to the first. The first shot during this time, made by junior midfielder Dorian Wilczynski, ended up as another save for John Jay’s goalkeeper. Minutes later, Spagnuolo followed it up with another attempt to score, though it ended up out top right. Keene followed this up with three more shots over the course of the next ten minutes of the match, however, none of them ended up scoring. Junior goalkeeper Giuseppe Denucce-Simms made a save with 15 minutes to go in the period to prevent John Jay from scoring, his first of the game. Seven minutes later, however, John Jay’s forward Greg Semsarian managed to score the first of only two goals in this game. He attempted another goal, but Denucce-Simms made his second save of the game. Unfortunately, it was inevitable that JJ would score. Not even a second later, forward Josh Clemas scored the second and final goal for John Jay with eight minutes to go in the game. Keene tried to rally, with three shots made after the goals to try and get back in it, but nothing came of it. The game ended with a final score of 0-2.
With the loss against John Jay College, the Owls’ record moves to 1-2 at the start of the season. Their next game has them traveling to Troy, New York, in a game against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
