The sounds of music filled the Mabel Brown Room as Chock Full O’ Notes (CFON) acapella group took the stage for its spring concert.
The performance was held on Sunday, April 26, at 5 p.m., and featured arrangements of pieces from artists like Radiohead and Chappell Roan.
Junior Hailey Taylor, CFON’s Music Director and a music performance major, said that she enjoys CFON because it doesn’t feel like work.
“CFON has given me a space to be a leader and learn how to do so many musical things and connect with people in a way that my major doesn’t typically allow me to do,” Taylor said. “I am primarily a brass player, so getting to sing and work on those skills has majorly helped with skills on my instruments.”
Taylor said that the group also supports her when she’s feeling down.
“We’re all allowed to have bad days, and I feel that when I do, the group and my sectionmates meet me where I’m at. That means the world to me,” she said.
Taylor said she is proud of the work CFON has done to become an established group on campus again.
“We had had very few incoming members, no new arrangements and very little public presence,” she said. “While there is still much more work to do, we have had wonderful new members join us, new arrangements and we are now posting regularly on our social medias.”
Taylor said that CFON’s main plan for the fall semester is to “get out into the community and perform.”
“We would love to get our name out there and share our music with everyone,” she said.
Junior Sam Burak, CFON’s social media coordinator, said that this semester’s concert was mostly 2000s and 2010s music.
“We’ve decided to take a more personal approach and arrange music that is closer to us as performers and our audience on campus,” Burak said.
Burak said he greatly values his time in CFON, which he has been a part of since his first year.
“It has birthed some of the greatest friendships I have ever had and has given me so many opportunities to perform on stage with like-minded individuals,” he said. “CFON is genuinely one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life.”
Burak highly recommends auditioning for the group if you’re interested.
“Auditioning for any sort of music performance group is scary, especially one that performs on stage,” he said. “However, the experience is phenomenal and is so incredibly welcoming. Music is absolutely for everyone, and we see so many people who don’t get the proper opportunities to express themselves in music and performance. CFON provides that outlet.”
Audience members praised CFON’s performance.
“I thought it was great,” said junior Michela Morris.
“It was so fun,” said junior Izzy Healy.
“I thought they all did a really great job,” said junior Juniper Fowler.
