As spring winds down, there are five New England professional sports teams still in season. Given the number of active teams, the Keene State community weighed in on their favorite sports teams in New England.
Two of the five active teams are in the playoffs right now–the Boston Bruins hockey team and the Boston Celtics basketball team. The Celtics are in a series against the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Bruins are up against the number one Buffalo Sabres.
The Boston Fleet of the PWHL is on the back end of their season with just a few games remaining. New England’s soccer team, the Revolution, is currently in season and will play its games into the fall; the same goes for the Boston Red Sox, who just began their season last month.
New England is home to a large hockey community, among its other popular sports. Junior Aidan King said that the Bruins are his favorite because of his experience with hockey.
“I grew up playing hockey; my whole family plays hockey. My dad coached us growing up. We just watched a bunch of games and all my favorite players were playing,” said King.
Another junior, Noah Lopshire, was wearing a Bruins jersey when he talked about how nostalgic the Bruins are to him.
“I’ve loved them since the [Stanley] Cup run in 2011, watching that with my dad and staying up late. I’ve just been a really passionate fan for them ever since then,” said Lopshire.
Although King’s favorite team was the Bruins, he touched on how underrated the Red Sox season is because of its time of year.
“Nothing beats a good summer night baseball game. Some people think baseball is boring, but I like it a lot,” said King.
Kyle Biermann, a sports information assistant in athletics, said his favorite New England team is the one that is not active currently.
“Gotta be Patriots. I’ve been spoiled as a fan of the Patriots since. Love all Boston teams, so very lucky,” said Biermann.
For whatever reason, New Englanders decide on their favorite team, folks in the Northeast will continue to be passionate for all of its teams.
