War is brewing in the Middle East and once again the U.S. is fueling the fire with gasoline.
President Donald Trump coordinated with Israel to strike Iran, killing the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Equinox strongly believes these attacks were reckless, unnecessary and driven by Trump’s desire to boost his own image rather than genuine security concerns.
Trump has proudly spoken about being “anti-war” for many years since the start of his 2016 presidential campaign. In 2023, he bragged, saying, “I am proud to be the only president in decades who did not start a new war,” according to The New York Times.
Yet, in his second term, we have seen him employ the National Guard in major U.S. cities, enforcing mass deportations of U.S. immigrants, bombings of Venezuela and the capturing of its President, Nicolás Maduro. Now he has joined the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, in attacking Iran. Trump only continues to contradict his “America First” and war-ending promises.
The U.S. Congress solely holds the power to declare war unless there is an immediate threat to the country. In that case, the president can take action without congressional approval.
While Trump has taken to Truth Social, claiming that the U.S. is facing “imminent threats from the Iranian regime,” we find that there is no real justification or evidence to support this. Trump is only continuing his fear tactics to distract us from focusing on conflicts unfolding on American soil.
It is the duty of the President to uphold the Constitution, and the lack of authorization from Congress shows Trump’s continued disregard for following the law. He will continue to abuse his power and avoid accountability unless the House of Representatives tries an impeachment.
The current actions of the U.S. government come from a long history of imperialism and exploiting other countries for resources and labor. It is no coincidence that Iran is a significant oil exporter and the U.S. military is seizing Venezuelan oil tankers.
We feel nothing good has come from past American involvement in conflicts in the Middle East, and that it is unlikely this time will be any different. U.S. involvement in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan has caused unnecessary bloodshed of innocent people. We are only repeating past mistakes.
With Israel’s genocide in Gaza, we feel it is the last country America needs as an ally. Israel has lost global respect, and since the beginning of Trump’s second term, so has the U.S., especially since the release of the Epstein files exposing the relationships between many political and public figures and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
It is clear to us that Trump is prioritizing his loyalty to Netanyahu and Israel over his obligation to Americans.
There are reports of missiles destroying a girls’ primary school in southern Iran, killing around 150 people and wounding almost 100 more, many of whom are believed to be students, according to United Nations news.
“The UN education agency, UNESCO, says that the bombing of a primary school during the US and Israeli military attacks on Iran on Saturday constitutes a grave violation of humanitarian law.”
In retaliation, Iran has attacked a U.S. embassy in Kuwait, killing six U.S. service members, the NY Times reports.
“…The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties. That often happens in war, but we’re doing this not for now. We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.”
Trump’s lack of sympathy for American soldiers who are putting their lives on the line is sickening. It is unlawful for those in the U.S. military to be sacrificed because of Trump’s insatiable thirst for global dominance. There is nothing noble about that.
If immigrants are supposedly criminals “poisoning the blood” of our country, why is a convicted felon sitting in office, and why is his closest ally a wanted war criminal?
