The city of Keene plans to use a donation from a local casino for a project at its police department, the city manager recently said.
Keene got $13,788 from Revo Casino and Social House on Emerald Street. That sum represents 35 percent of the casino’s profits from table games and part of its revenue from slot machines from Dec. 17 to 26.
City staff plan to use the money to help cover the cost of replacing a computer system for the police department that records phone and radio calls, City Manager Elizabeth Ferland said. The city estimates the replacement would cost $41,300. The spending plan is slated to go before the City Council’s Finance, Organization and Personnel Committee later this week.
State law passed in 2024 allows municipalities to receive donations from casinos within their borders. This is the first time the city of Keene received a casino donation.
The City Council narrowly approved a measure in September that allows Keene to receive casino donations, though some councilors felt that receiving donations from an entity the city regulates could be a conflict of interest.
