In Keene, the sexual healthcare nonprofit Planned Parenthood is now incorporating vasectomy services along with its current and existing services to expand reproductive health care in the region.
“Vasectomies are a form of birth control that involves cutting and sealing the tubes that carry the sperm from the testicles to penis,” according to a report from The Keene Sentinel.
An October 9 news release from Planned Parenthood of New England stated patients who receive vasectomy care can expect it to take about an hour before being sent home.
It is so important and great to see accessible reproductive healthcare choices like vasectomies being available at convenient locations like Planned Parenthood. It provides me with a sense of hope to know that people will now be able to undergo a procedure like this in a safe local location.
According to Kayla Montgomery, vice president of public affairs for Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund, the demand for vasectomy services increased following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that had protected the right to an abortion, as reported by The Keene Sentinel.
I’m glad to see that people are turning to accessible reproductive healthcare options like vasectomies to protect their choices under the impact of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision. It is clear that a lot of people are affected by this, hence the need for the service of a vasectomy. To me, this shows the importance of allowing individuals to make decisions about their own bodies and gives them more of an opportunity to do it safely, with these services being offered at locations like Planned Parenthood.
Montgomery also told The Keene Sentinel that patients have been having good experiences so far at other locations.
I believe it is super reassuring to see that reproductive services like vasectomies have been going well in other locations, and I can only hope the same for the Keene location, as I am confident in their abilities to do so.
I am a firm believer that each individual deserves the right to make decisions about birth control options, like a vasectomy, for themselves as it regards their own body. If they feel a service like this that Planned Parenthood offers is the most beneficial for them and their body, then it should always be accessible to them.
If there are people out there who disagree with this, that’s okay. But nobody should be stripped of this opportunity if it can help them, just because people may disagree, which is why I am pleased to see that Planned Parenthood has expanded its services.
