Looking to share your artistic abilities with the KSC community? Tune into the Keene State Media Production (KSMP) club, where all work is accepted!
The club will be starting this season off on Thursday, Sept. 25, with a “Grilling and Chilling” event featuring WKNH and Art Collective on the Student Center Lawn from 5-8 p.m.
This event will have free food, lawn games and music as an opportunity to get to know the club’s e-board members and have some fun.
Following this, KSMP will also host a Halloween Film Festival on Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Putnam Theater, where they will showcase student-made spooky-themed films and provide free food.
According to junior and President Heather Gibb, KSMP is an on-campus media creation club.
“We facilitate creativity. We do podcasting, photography and a variety of film festivals,” said Gibb.
KSMP meets on Monday nights at 6 p.m. in room 169 of the Media Arts Center.
Junior and Vice President Cameron Rockwell said, “We hold different kinds of activities during our meetings. We start with an icebreaker. Sometimes we do equipment demos. Just last Monday, we pulled out a camera [and] some lights in the podcast board, and we gave a run-through on how to use each of them and had three different stations for our members to go around and experiment with them.”
In KSMP, students can check out any equipment as long as they are active members who have been to at least two meetings.
“We show new things every week, so people know what we have, and then anything we’ve demoed, you can check out,” said Rockwell. “You can check things out for an entire week regardless of what year or classes you’re in.”
Those looking to submit films, photography, podcasts or other media can email the club their work or meet up with the members and then they will upload it onto their hard drive, which then goes into a media player.
When asked why she became interested in KSMP, Gibb said, “My freshman year, the film majors have a cookout that you can go to. I went to that to make some friends. It was a really great atmosphere and group to be a part of. I definitely got to learn a lot about filmmaking.”
Rockwell said something similar: “I’m a film major, so that was the beginning of my interest. [KSMP] drew me in with the opportunities they have to offer as well as making connections in the club. For me, it was collaborating with the people in the club because there are a lot of chances to collaborate on films.”
KSMP also has Feature Fridays on its Instagram account, where the club highlights photographers on campus, whether they are club members or not. Weekly themes are released each Monday. Previous themes included books, bugs, and vacation, which you can find on the club’s Instagram page at @ksmpmedia.
