The Keene State Women’s Softball team traveled to Eastern Connecticut State University (EastConn) for doubleheader losses in the rescheduled games.
EastConn scored the first run in the second inning to start the first game, giving the Warriors the advantage over Keene State.
Sophomore catcher and infielder Elyse Picard gained a hit for the Owls and made it on base with junior outfielder Morgan Rodrigues advancing to third base. Senior infielder Molly Murray struck out, ending the second inning, and disadvantaged Keene State.
A run for the Owls did not come until the bottom of the fifth. Picard doubled to left center and then stole third for Keene State. First-year catcher and utility Abby Weiterman hit one, seeing Picard making it home and scoring the first run for KSC.
The Warriors came back strong at the top of the seventh. They gained two more runs with only one error, giving them a 3-1 advantage over Keene State.
The Owls struggled to return after that and struck out before any runs could come in, ending the first game with a loss for Keene State of 3-1.
In the second game of the day, EastConn started the first inning with a lead of 1-0 from a run by Maddi Sauve. The Owls came back stronger, with Picard running home and Murray scoring the second point, putting Keene State ahead.
Advancing into the rest of the game, there were no more runs for either team until the top of the fourth. There, the Warriors gained their second point, tying the game up.
It was a tough battle between the two teams, and an eighth inning was brought in to break the tie. The Owls could not find the end, and the Warriors created a series of hits and steals to gain their third point.
EastConn wrapped the game quickly, with Keene State gaining no bases at the bottom of the eighth. The Owls lost the second game of the day against EastConn with a final score of 3-2.
The Owls will play the University of Southern Maine on April 15 during their next doubleheader.
