While going around campus in the library, dining hall, Appian Way or the student center some students have argued about which dining option is the best.
Keene State offers different dining experiences across campus. While the Zorn Dining Commons is a traditional dining hall, Lloyd’s Marketplace and the Hoot-n-Scoot offer cold and hot meals to go.
Although first-year Bryce Boyd-Tucker is a commuter student and does not have a meal plan, he said he has been to the dining hall a total of three times. “I don’t mind the food, it is just not my first choice. The fries aren’t bad and the chicken sandwich is good at times.”
Boyd-Tucker continued, “I don’t think I ever ate at Hoot-n-Scoot, but I heard the Sizzlers are pretty good.”
In addition to Hoot-n-Scoot, Lloyd’s Marketplace is another popular option on campus which has a different dining experience that has many supporters.
First-year Dillon Crockett argued that Lloyd’s is better than the dining hall food. “I prefer Lloyd’s, personally. I feel the food has better consistency and better quality.”
First-year Tavin McGill agreed with Crockett and argued that “Lloyd’s is the best of all, I prefer Lloyd’s because they always have food instead of going to the dining hall at 3 p.m. and nothing being there which can be a bit frustrating at times.”
Sophomore Hannah Greenwood said Lloyd’s is her favorite place to get food on campus. “What I love most about Lloyd’s is Tú Taco. I get it so often and I like how they make your order fast enough that it is still hot.”
Greenwood continued, “I don’t prefer the dining hall, I try to avoid it there. I don’t like to get any food from there.”
First-year Tasia Tucker agreed with Greenwood and said, “Lloyd’s is my favorite. The dining hall food doesn’t taste real to me at times, or sometimes the food is bland and under seasoned or overcooked.”
Sophomore Michaela Kane said Lloyd’s has more available options when it comes to food. “Overall, the food at Lloyd’s looks more presentable in my opinion. It doesn’t look unappetizing like the dining hall food can at times.”
Kane continued, “I really love the rice bowls. They fill me up basically the whole day and overall that is my favorite thing to order.”
Sophomores Kayla Carpenter and Molly Sheridan both had the same thing to say as Kane. “Lloyd’s being the cheapest option for a meal plan here on campus benefits students like us. Although Hoot-n-Scoot is more expensive than Lloyd’s, it’s better than the dining hall food for sure.”
Moving on from Lloyd’s Marketplace, Hoot-n-Scoot provides different alternatives for those looking for more food options located in the West Dining Hall. In addition to the Sizzlers, Hoot-n-Scoot has other food to offer.
Sophomore Cameron Rockwell said he prefers Hoot-n-Scoot to Lloyd’s or the dining hall food because of the variety of sandwiches that it has to offer. “Overall, just the quality of the dining hall food doesn’t taste real to me. Hoot-n-Scoot is very convenient and I like it better than the others.”
Many students agreed with one another, saying that Lloyd’s is the better option regarding food. The Dining Commons had a lower rating in its health inspection this year while Lloyd’s Marketplace and Hoot-n-Scoot received high scores.
