One hundred gnomes have escaped from the Center for Research and Writing, and KSC students have been tasked with finding and returning them.
On Monday, March 24, the hunt for mini gnome figurines began at Keene State. The Center for Research and Writing staff hid them all across campus, offering prizes for anyone who returned one. According to an email sent out by the Center for Research and Writing, some of the prizes include KSC merch, Brewbakers gift cards and Jellycat stuffed animals.
There is also a golden gnome who will earn a prize of a Kindle Paperwhite.
According to junior Lauren Dombrowski, a Center for Research and Writing employee, this activity is meant to help make more students aware of the center.
“We’re marketing for the research and writing center,” said Dombrowski. “Just spreading the word out of the Center and the resources on campus.”
“When a student finds them, they bring them to the writing center, Room 111 in the library,” continued Dombrowski.
The Center for Research and Writing offers many resources for students, such as peer-to-peer tutoring, essay revisions and finding sources for papers.
Dombrowski also said that this event would be going on until the end of the semester since more gnomes will be escaping each week and that information about the hunt can be found on the Center for Research and Writing’s social media pages.
There are still many gnomes to find and return, and Dombrowski gave The Equinox a hint as to where some of them might be found.
“Some are outside; some are in gardens as they are gnomes,” said Dombrowski. “Also lots are inside. In the gym, on bookshelves, Hungry Owl shelves. Just about everywhere.”
