Students have gotten used to icy winter weather, but now things are starting to warm up.

The spring equinox this year was March 20, and signs of the season are showing up everywhere. The trees are starting to bud with new leaves, the weather is warmer and some flowers are sprouting up outside.

As spring comes to Keene State’s campus, so do many other activities that students are looking forward to. Many said they are looking forward to the nicer weather.

Sophomore Daniel Chaffee said, “I love the spring, more importantly taking nature walks and exploring more of outside now that it’s getting warmer.”

Junior Katherine Whitney shared Chaffee’s sentiment.

“In the springtime, I look forward to warmer weather for sure. I like going on walks and reconnecting with nature after this brutal New England winter,” said Whitney.

Junior Emelia Shea commented on the blossoming of flowers during the spring.

“Definitely looking forward to seeing some tulips, which I am very excited about and the warm weather for sure, it makes me feel happier,” said Shea.

Junior Kylie Lowell said, “I’m looking forward to Easter and going for more walks outdoors with my dogs, as well as going outside for more activities.”

Students also expressed that they were looking forward to participating in spring sports and other outdoor activities.

“I’m looking forward to the warm weather and rock climbing in a rock gym again,” said sophomore Liam Thorne.

“I love the spring weather because I longboard and my seasonal depression goes away. I live off campus and my friends and I like to play the game of dice outside so I can’t wait,” said junior Brandon Valley.

Valley was not the only athlete looking forward to warmer weather.

“I am a trail runner and the number of trails that are now accessible is what I am definitely looking forward to now that it’s getting warmer,” said sophomore Henry Reynolds.

First-year Hunter Leeman said, “I am looking forward to the sun being out more. It makes me happier, now I feel like I can do more activities like play football.”
