Sororities at Keene State have started formal recruitment for the spring semester.
During these recruitment drives, students interested in Greek life participate in events to potentially become a part of the community in the near future.
Delta Phi Epsilon (DPhiE), Phi Sigma Sigma (Phi Sig) and Kappa Beta Gamma (KBG) are the on-campus sororities for Keene State.
Recently, DPhiE held a candy gram fundraiser which all students had the chance to participate in.
“The candy grams are a fundraiser underneath our vice president of programming. We are basically allowing anybody to purchase a candy gram for a dollar and they get to send it to anybody they want. It is right around Valentine’s Day so you could send it to a loved one. It’s for anyone on campus and also anyone off campus and we figure out a way to get it to them,” said junior and DPhiE President Lia Ospina.
Members of the sororities were asked about their role in the recruitment process, what the process looks like and their favorite part of recruitment.
“Most of the stuff that we do involves getting to know each other and the potential new members getting to know our sisterhood,” said junior and Vice President of Recruitment for DPhiE Kayla Turner.
When asked about her favorite part of the recruitment process, Turner said, “I love to meet new people and I am very excited to see what I have been working on for months come to fruition.”
President of KBG senior Sarah Grindrod said, “While the recruitment head does most of the planning and organizing, I am also part of that team so that I can communicate with our Panhellenic executives and get any kind of information across that needs to be communicated with any parties. The first two nights we have open house nights where people who sign up for recruitment get to meet all three of the sororities.”
“We just became fully initiated two weeks ago, and we have been going through the process for a little while. For a bit, we acted as SIG which stands for Sorority Interest Group, but we officially got our letters two weeks ago,” Continued Grindrod.
In an email interview with the Equinox, sophomore and Membership Recruitment Chair for Phi Sig, Hailey O’Brien stated, “Within this position, I plan events to connect with new people and introduce them to our sisterhood. My goal is to ensure that all women feel welcomed and empowered within not only Phi Sigma Sigma but the entire Greek community.”
“My favorite part of recruitment has to be sharing my passion for this organization with every strong and capable woman that has walked through our doors not only this week but everyone who has interacted with us since the start of the semester. I am so beyond fortunate to have found a home for myself within Greek life, and I cannot wait to watch these remarkable women find their homes,” stated O’Brien.
