At Middlebury College’s last indoor meet of the season, Keene State’s indoor track and field teams competed at the non-scoring meet. They only have one more meet before the LEC championship conference on February 22.
In the women’s 5000-meter race, sophomore Maya Wedge finished with a time of 21:35.43. Coming in seventh place out of 11, senior Dawson Hamele finished with a time of 9.05 seconds in the preliminary round of the men’s 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for the first heat out of two as the fifth fastest. He finished in eighth out of nine for the finals, only .02 seconds behind the seventh place athlete.
For the women’s 60-meter, first-year Keely Giordano got third place out of 20 with a time of 8.02 seconds, with junior Sophie Olson taking the last spot. Giordano was placed in the third heat as the fastest runner while Olson was put into the first heat in the sixth spot out of seven. In the final round, Giordano finished second with a time of 8.06 seconds.
The KSC men’s team also did well with the 60-meter race. Sophomore Kyle Thomas placed third with a time of 7.09 seconds out of 33 runners in the preliminary round, being one of the four runners from Keene State in this race. Sophomore Alex Nimiroski was placed in the fourth heat as the fifth place runner and placed second in the finals.
Out of the nine runners that participated in the women’s 800-meter, four were Keene State athletes. Senior Sarah Ames placed second with a time of 2:27.65, a time that was a fraction of a second away from first place. In third, there was junior Anna O’Reilly with a time of 2:28.27. Fifth place was taken by first-year Ava Fortin, finishing at 2:38.43 and right behind her was senior Autumn Boisvert with a time of 2:38.53. They were all placed in the second section.
The KSC women’s 400-meter was also successful. Giordano placed in third once again, now with a time of 27.04 seconds. She was put into the fourth section as the fastest runner.
The men’s 400 meter proved to be similar to the women’s. First-year Sean Von Ranson placed third in the preliminary round, finishing with a time of 52.48 seconds, being the fastest runner in the section he was put in.
In the men’s 3000-meter race, senior Jake Velazquez placed first out of 12 with a time of 8:47.80, beating the second place runner by almost eight seconds.
In the men’s triple jump, junior Eden Damis scored first place out of seven, with three of the other competitors not starting and one not meeting the minimum qualifying standards for the jump. His mark was at 13.39 meters [43’ 11 ¼”], two inches more than the second place athlete. He had no fouls in any of his six rounds.
Their next conference is this Friday, Feb. 14 for the Valentine Invitational held in Boston.
