Keene State’s Women’s Soccer team ended their final LEC matchup in a draw on Saturday, Oct 26, 2024 against Rhode Island College.
Before the action began, a brief ceremony was held to celebrate the senior athletes who have dedicated their four years at Keene State to being a student-athlete. Seniors Kathleen Mullin, Allison Yanski, Katherine Burzlaff and Avery Amalfitano were met by their families and celebrated as part of the senior day tradition.
The game itself consisted of plays that would occur in a late-season battle between conference opponents. Both teams scrapped for fifty-fifty balls, committing fouls left and right. The Owls were able to draw close to a goal, but couldn’t find the net during the first half.
Rhode Island College was responsive with their scoring opportunities but were stopped four times by junior goaltender Riley Andriski throughout the first half of play. Andriski and the defense stayed busy until the half ended as the visitors amounted five corner kicks.
The second half began with the same fiery energy shared by both squads as they jogged out onto the turf. Keene State’s back half stayed strong, keeping the score tied after facing two corner kicks and two shots within the first 10 minutes of the half.
The momentum flipped midway through the second half as Keene State’s attack strung together a plethora of scoring opportunities. Unable to put one away, the score remained 0-0 deep into the second half.
As the game was coming to a close both teams had excellent chances to find a goal in a scoreless game. The efforts from both teams were not enough to break the tie, ending the game with a 0-0 score.
The Keene State Women’s Soccer team finished the season with a conference record of 1-5-2.
