The Keene State College Women’s Basketball team lost against Williams College and Framingham State at the Morin Memorial Tournament.
The first game was held Saturday, Nov. 16 at Williams College at 6 p.m.
The game started out strong on KSC’s behalf, as junior Valerie Luizzi scored a three-pointer to begin the match. Both teams were neck-and-neck until Williams scored several points toward the end of the first with a lead.
Mid-way through, Keene State was at 16 points. KSC scored a few three-pointers and layups, but they still fell short of Williams’ ability to rack up points. The second quarter ended with Keene State at 20 and Williams at 24.
Sophomore Brynn Rautiola from KSC had a layup, assisted by senior Samantha Lee to start the third. Williams scored with a jumper, and KSC failed to respond with multiple misses and subs. Williams continued to rack up points, as the quarter ended with Keene at 8 and Williams at 18 as they separated themselves on the scoreboard.
The fourth quarter started with a layup made by Luizzi, followed by an assist from sophomore Abbie Kozlowski. Williams kept their lead, ending with Keene at 15 and Williams 19. The overall score had Williams at 80 and Keene at 55.
The tournament continued as KSC Women’s Basketball took on Framingham State on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
Framingham started off the first quarter with a layup leading to a 2-0 lead. The Owls continued to push and inch themselves closer through the tough Williams defense. Back-and-forth scoring continued until the end of the quarter, with Framingham at 17 and Keene at 7.
In the second quarter, Framingham continued their lead with a layup scoring two points. The score stayed the same throughout the middle half until Luizzi made a three-point jump shot. Both teams made layups and free throws throughout the end of the quarter. The half ended with Framingham in a lead of 30-20.
Framingham was missing shots giving Keene State room to make two layups. The score was close with a 31-29, and Keene State struggled to keep up as Framingham kept on with their point streak. The game ended with a 60-42 Framingham victory.
The KSC Women’s Basketball team lost both games in the tournament. The tournament was early in the season and the Owls still have a long road ahead of them.
Keene State women’s basketball will take on Worcester State, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. at Brissette Court.
