Power was restored to Keene State’s campus at 12:16 p.m. following an outage that lasted over an hour, according to a KSC Owl Alert sent to the campus community.
The outage occurred across most of Keene State’s campus around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The alert urged those still without power to call Campus Safety at 603-358-2228.
The outage was caused by a squirrel that was electrocuted at the switchgear behind the Owl’s Nest 3 building, according to Assistant Director of Facilities Services Colin Burdick.
A previous KSC Owl Alert was sent to the campus community at 11:14 a.m. stating that the Department of Campus Safety was aware of the outage and that the college’s facilities team and power company had been notified.
The alert urged students not to light candles or open flames, as it would increase fire risk. The alert also stated emergency lights would be turned on to illuminate hallways and stairways.
According to the alert, those working in the on-campus laboratories were urged to secure experiments, close fume hoods and chemical containers, unplug equipment and turn off gases.
Additionally, for those who may have gotten stuck in an elevator due to the outage, the alert urged using the emergency phone button for assistance from campus safety to get out.
