Keene State’s Men’s Ice Hockey team played against the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (UMD) last Saturday and lost with a final score of 6-4.
This season Keene State is (2-4-1) while the Corsairs are (2-1-0). Power play goals were traded throughout the first period as both teams took advantage of their opportunity. The late goal by UMD carried them into the second period.
The second period began with the Corsairs holding onto the momentum. UMD scored first in the period to give them a lead that was quickly shut down by the Owls’ power play. Before the second period concluded, UMD hopped back on the opposition and scored a goal to close out the window with the Owls trailing 3-2.
Keene State sophomore Marcus Chrisafideis put it in the back of the net for his second of the night at 20 seconds into the third period tying the score at 3-3. The excitement was short-lived when 56 seconds later a penalty led to UMD’s Collin Patterson getting his second goal, putting the Corsairs at an advantage of 4-3. Another UMD power play created a two-goal lead only 4:24 later to make the score 5-3.
First-year Chase Carney scored the next goal for Keene State in a shot that bounced off of UMD goalie Ethan Labbe after a rebound shot from first-year Luke Festa. Five minutes later the Owls received a slashing penalty and would go shorthanded once again.
UMass-Dartmouth scored their next goal after a faceoff when Patterson scored to achieve a hat-trick for the Corsairs, giving them a 6-4 lead.
In their seven games this season, the Owls have allowed four or more goals in each. KSC has only lost one power play goal in the other three games with 2-0-1. Chrisafideis now has made six goals in the seven games and Thor Hansen has the team’s best with seven assists.
The team is off until the Terry Moran Invitational in Vermont hosted by Vermont State University Castleton on November 29. There they will face King’s College before playing against an undecided opponent the day after.
