There is still time to order hand-made pies from Keene State College’s Dance Team (KSCDT) before the ordering period closes on Wednesday, November 20. The team’s annual pie fundraiser, which helps with offsetting the financial burden of attending the Universal Dance Association National Championship, offers a menu of six signature pies to choose from.
Buyers can choose between apple, pumpkin, blueberry, chocolate chip, lemon cheesecake and chocolate peanut butter. The chocolate peanut butter pie costs 18 dollars, while the rest of the flavors cost 16 dollars.
The pies will be made by the dance team during the week before Thanksgiving, and delivered to customers. The team accepts payment in the form of cash or cheque, and orders can be placed by speaking with KSCDT members or by contacting junior Cassidy White, who serves as manager of the Dance Team.
White said the fundraiser enables the team, which placed highly in both game day and hip-hop divisions last year, to represent Keene State College competitive dancers on a national stage.
“It’s very expensive to orchestrate this trip and register for it, especially when we factor in housing, transportation and everything we need to make things run smoothly,” said White.
“Last year we were very stressed out in regard to funding, and I want to make sure that we don’t have to deplete our funding and leave the next team manager with a financing crisis,” added White.
White said a pie sale profit of $1,500 is a fundraising target. According to White, the fundraiser offers team members a bonding and team-building experience.
“We make the pies together as a group, and it really gives us the chance to have fun and work together in a fun sort of community-building way,” said White.
White said the pies are baked using time-tested recipes that have become a staple of the annual fundraiser.
“We’ve used the same recipe the entire time we’ve done this, and they’re always consistent in terms of the quality and love that goes into each and every one,” said White.
“During my freshman year, I sold pies to my hairdresser. Nowadays she texts me every year asking when she can get pies because they’re just that good,” added White.
Professor of Theater and Dance Céline Perron is a regular patron of the fundraiser and praised KSCDT for their dedication.
“The team is a fabulous group of young people who put their all into everything they do, whether it’s representing the school on stage or working hard through these fundraising events,” said Perron.
“My mother and I bought apple pies from them a few years ago, and they were as delicious as always. People should buy their pies to support the team, and also because they’re just delicious,” said Perron.
“It’s as American as apple pie,” added Perron.
