Keene State College Men’s Soccer faced off against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMD) on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The game was part of the Little East Conference (LEC) and ended in a 1-1 draw.
Game play began with a save by Keene State goalie and senior Regan Racicot at 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Three minutes later, an Owl shot was blocked by Corsair player Nick Mahjoory after making it past Corsair goalie Ethan Donahue.
UMD scored the first goal of the game at 29 minutes after a misplay by KSC’s defense. Corsair Joey Paiva scored past Racicot for UMD’s only goal of the game.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the half. However, Owl senior Giacomo Sinopoli received a red card with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, leaving KSC with 10 players for the remainder of the game.
The second half began with little action until KSC earned a penalty shot after attempting a corner shot and a Corsair touching the ball. KSC sophomore Alex Nicolas was chosen to take the shot as he scored and tied the game.
Over the next 15 minutes, UMD attempted to score, but with a save from Racicot and a defensive save from senior Ali Alzawar, the Owls pushed back.
Nicolas, during the final minutes of the game, attempted one last shot, but Donahue made his first save of the game to block the shot.
The game ended with Keene State defense stopping a pair of shots from the Corsairs, leaving the game at a 1-1 draw.
Next up, Keene State College Men’s Soccer is hitting the road to take on the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m.
