$84,470 was raised from the Fall Athletics Giving Challenge, which concluded on Monday, Sept. 23.
According to the KSC Athletics website, the previous giving challenge in February raised $87,002 and had 838 donors. The goal was $75,000, which the department was able to surpass.
The yearly month-long fundraiser, The Giving Challenge, was started in 2015 as a way for Keene State’s athletic teams to raise money to fund their programs.
According to Keene State College’s, GiveCampus website, Fenton Family Dealerships is sponsoring the challenge again and will give additional prize money to the varsity teams who win each category, the team that raises the most money, the team with the highest number alumni donors and the “Most Improved” team who has increased their fundraising the most over last years challenge.
As stated on the Keene State College, GiveCampus website, among the highest-funded men’s teams was men’s basketball with $18,032. Additionally, baseball raised $15,400 and men’s ice hockey made $11,830.
For the KSC women’s teams, softball had $5,025 in donations, with women’s basketball at $3,800 and women’s ice hockey at $3,530 to follow.
Keene State College Hockey Coach Bobby Rodrigue spoke about the importance of the event.
“It’s important because resources are always scarce but the generosity and support of our community affords us the opportunity to deliver an experience for our student-athletes that aligns with our culture,” Rodrigue said.
“[Men’s varsity ice hockey] has received about $9,000 in donations so far,” he added. “Fundraising dollars are used to support the student-
athletes in areas that budgets do not such as apparel, and some excess travel expenses.”
