Non-profit arts organization Nova Arts, located at 48 Emerald Street in Keene, released their schedule for the artists performing this upcoming fall, including Stelth Ulvang, Jason Anderson, Kimaya Diggs and more.
Nova Arts Program Director Eric Gagne said the organization aims to “curate shows with an aesthetic sensibility that we feel are unique to us. We get around 100 inquiries a week and we deal with agencies as well as artists directly.”
Gagne said sometimes finding a time for all the artists doesn’t always work out, as much as they want it too.
“Sometimes folks write in and it’s a good fit with something else we are looking at; sometimes it takes a while for a particular show to work out. We love finding new sounds and bringing them to the area,” Eric Gagne said.
Anderson, who performs on September 28, is an artist raised in New Hampshire who performs his songs and covers, usually on an acoustic guitar. Anderson said he is “really really looking forward to returning” to Keene and Nova Arts, as he played at the venue back in February.
“It was a really really special night. I am so proud of what that crew has done for the music scene in New Hampshire. It’s an honor to be a small part of that magic,” Anderson said.
Ulvang, a touring member of the Lumineers, is scheduled to perform on October 4th. Ulvang mostly plays folk music and just released his fourth record release, “Stelth Ulvang and The Tigernips.” Ulvang said he is stoked to come to the northeast and to Keene.
“It is a lot of uncharted territory for me, and even the Lumineers haven’t gone too far up there,” Ulvang said. “So, I’m excited to return to a lot of spots that I’ve never been.”
When asked about booking Nova Arts, Ulvang said that he had friends in the area that recommended it.
“I’m gonna have a little band together, a little three-piece, going to try to do a lot of stuff true to form. Finding a nice spot with intimate listening space is what I strive for, I hope people will give me a warm welcome.”
Another artist scheduled for the fall is Diggs who performs on October 5. She is a singer and songwriter based in western Massachusetts who typically plays soul music, mostly original work.
“I played at Nova Arts in the spring a few years ago and that was just a fantastic experience, and I have played there once since. I love that venue, and I worked hard to try and come back,” Diggs said.
When asked about her favorite part of Keene, Diggs said she walked up the street with her band and got really good food. “We got some Jamaican food, and it was fantastic.”
“Every time I’ve played Nova Arts, I’ve met people who really connect with my music, and who have been really engaged and following what I’m doing,” Diggs added. “You don’t find an audience like that in every city, so there’s definitely something very special about Keene and I’m really excited to come back.”
