The Keene State Field Hockey team extended its winning streak to five and maintained their perfect season record after a dominant 7-2 win against Fitchburg State University on Saturday, September 14.
The offensive push began early for the Owls as sophomore forward Meghan Daileanes scored her first goal of the season, just one minute and 21 seconds into the match.
Keene State maintained pressure on Fitchburg as the team rifled off four more shots before securing a second goal, this time from sophomore forward Grace Seabury.
Fitchburg did take an opportunity to fight back at around the 12-minute mark, with midfielder Samantha Jones scoring a goal following a penalty corner.
The Owls extended their lead before the first period ended though when senior forward Irini Stefanakos notched an unassisted goal, the Owls leading 3-1 heading into the second period.
Just over two and a half minutes into the second period, Keene State junior and forward Grace Bazin extended their lead again, this time to 4-1.
Afterward, KSC got off three shots while Fitchburg made two before Fitchburg forward Olivia Narkevicius scored her first goal of the season, narrowing the team’s deficit to 4-2.
The third period was rather quiet on the goals’ front, despite the Owls making a total of nine shots, compared to just two from Fitchburg.
At the 40-minute mark, Seabury got her second goal of the game unassisted, the Owls lead now standing at a commanding 5-2.
Just 45 seconds into the fourth and final period, Bazin secured her second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore defender Megan Goodwin.
Fitchburg’s offensive troubles continued, ultimately going shot-less the entire period.
30 seconds before the game ended, Seabury secured a hat trick, scoring her third goal, this time assisted by Daileanes.
The Owls wrapped up the match in a 7-2 blowout, with a perfect 5-0 record on the season.
Next, the team will face its first Little East Conference member of the season in a home matchup against UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 21.
