Seniors in the Music Tech program are putting the finishing touches on their presentations before their showcase on May 1, Wednesday night at the Redfern Arts Center’s Alumni Recital Hall.
Senior Trevor Adams said these capstone projects are “to showcase everything that we’ve done and learned in the music tech track of a music degree. We were all just given a very simple instruction… to make something as long as it can showcase a lot of what we’ve learned.”
Adams continued, “Even though there’s just three of us, there’s just such a wide gap in what we’re doing. We’ve all made some very different music.”
Adams elaborated, “Being able to do that, some people have gone for a more traditional music approach just like a lot of music theory knowledge, some people have not done that and gone into more modern musical ideas. There’s wildly different things, but we’re all kind of using similar skills.”
Olivia Song, another Music Tech senior, described this variety.
“We all get to put our education towards something that we enjoy doing,” Song said. “Week to week it was just, ‘Work on your project and do what you need to do.’ I personally use a lot of that time to experiment. We weren’t really set in a direction, we were told ‘just make something.’”
Song described these presentations by saying, “We got to make something that we like using the education that we’ve spent the past four years getting.”
