With many conservatives screaming to “think of the children” it seems they do not actually practice what they preach when it comes to children who are of gender, sexual and romantic minorities (GSRM).
There are a lot of conservatives who believe introducing the concept of GSRM people to children is harmful to them. One who comes to mind for me is Chaya Raichik, also known as, Libs of TikTok.
According to The Washington Post, “Since her appointment, Raichik has sought to pull books depicting gay and transgender people, as well as sex education, from public school libraries, saying she has found ‘porn’ in various districts.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center has also added Raichik to its list of extremists. Sadly people with similar thought processes to her are too common, leading to many anti- LGBTQ+ laws being introduced across the United States.
These people believe being a GSRM is inherently sexual and teaching about the concept to children is abuse. They could not be farther from the truth. In fact, it is the very laws targeting the GSRM community which harm children, especially, children in the GSRM community.
According to CNN, in Alabama HB130 is looking to be passed to expand a restriction of GSRM discussions from K-5 classrooms to K-12 classrooms. It is already bad enough that discussions are already restricted in K-5 classrooms, expanding the restriction to K-12 classrooms is beyond stupid and dangerous.
I sadly have very little faith in the lawmakers in the US. I want to believe the US government will work for the people to give us what we need and deserve. It has been very heartbreaking to see idiots in seats where competent lawmakers should be. Instead of protecting children like they say they want to do, they push their ancient and backwards agenda on people which will ultimately lead to the harm of children.
Not telling children about GSRM topics will only stigmatize and alienate children who are GSRM and leave them confused. Grown adults should not be so childish to think there is some “gay or trans agenda” to come after children to make them gay or trans. Straight and cis people could not make some children straight or cis, so what makes them think gay and trans people will be more successful?
We should all know better now that not everyone is the same and being gay or trans is natural and does not harm anyone. The people pushing for these laws need to come out of the Bronze Age and look to the future. There is no fundamental difference between gay and straight or cis and trans people. The only people who are pushing to keep children in the dark on these topics are morons who do not deserve an iota of respect.
Unlike the people who only say they want to help children, I actually do. There is nothing more important than creating a better world for our children’s future. In order to give them that better future we need people who are actually intelligent to run the country.
