Despite how much Christian nationalists talk about how important religion is I can not believe their faith is genuine.
These so-called “Christian” nationalists act like the hypocritical Pharisees Jesus Christ preached against. Instead of being like the wise man who built his house upon stone, they would rather build their houses upon sand. They treat Donald Trump as the new Messiah and it is sadly not even an exaggeration.
According to HuffPost, on March 25, during a court hearing, Trump attended for his upcoming criminal trial over hush money payments made to an adult film star he allegedly cheated on his wife with, one of his supporters compared him to Christ. Trump shared this comparison on his Truth Social account, which to me seems like he is cozying up to the comparison.
The Truth Social post began with, “It’s ironic that Christ walked through His greatest persecution the very week they are trying to steal your property from you,” and then was followed by a modified version of Psalm 109. Trump called this statement “beautiful” and thanked the supporter for it.
This is just one example of a worrying movement of people treating Trump like a god. I remember seeing a video of someone who is a part of the “sovereign citizen” movement praying to Trump when a police officer was breaking his window. The fact people are praying to Trump in the place of a deity leaves me incredibly worried about the mental state of these people.
The people who treat Trump like a god or the Messiah act like people who are in a cult. I have no idea what they see in Trump to even respect him, let alone think he is divine. He is one of the least Christ-like people alive, he is rich and a hypocrite which Christ preached against. I do not understand how people who call themselves Christians can support him and even treat him with the same respect reserved for their lord and savior.
One of the absolute worst examples I have seen was a book written by Helgard Müller called “President Donald J. Trump, The Son of Man – The Christ” which is as bad as it sounds.
rding to Snopes, “Author Helgard Müller said that he believes there are two Christs, with Jesus being the son of God who was betrayed by Judas, and Trump being the son of man who was ‘betrayed by [former U.S. Vice President Mike] Pence.’ He also claimed that his book ‘President Donald J. Trump, The Son of Man – The Christ,’ was not satire.”
I listened to someone read the entirety of this abysmally written book and the fact it is claimed to not be satire leaves me with very little hope for the mental health of Müller and people like him. There are so many more examples of people treating Trump like their god that I find it hard to believe Trump himself has never seen one.
He clearly saw the lighter comparisons of him to Christ and refused to condemn it. He needs to condemn these blasphemous comparisons and not cozy up to them. That is the least he can do.
