Student involvement gave out green gifts to students as the start of spring approaches.
Emily Alexander, senior coordinator for student involvement and wellbeing handed out plants Wednesday, March 6 from 10 a.m to 1 p.m.
Alexander said she ran this event because, “Plants are very therapeutic and nature brings people closer to happiness.”
Alexander added, “I really enjoy plants and nature … it’s soothing. People who go through tough times can be helped by the nature around them. I enjoy sharing my happiness, so these plants allow me to do that.”
Junior Benjamin Westbrook got a plant from the student center and said, “I enjoy nature. I’m a journalism major but plants have always interested me.”
Westbrook is a transfer student this semester and also stated, “Since I’m new here I go to a lot of events because I enjoy being around people. I also like plants so this was a pretty good event for me.”
In regards to his plant, Westbrook said he will take proper care of it.
“I’m going to obviously set it up in my room by the window and water it. Maybe I can start a collection.” Westbrook then said, “I’m happy with this experience today. My day feels better now after getting this plant.”
Another junior Christian Bates was asked about his thoughts on this event. “I think when people give out free stuff it’s a wonderful thing.”
Additionally, Bates said he enjoys plants. “My mom loves plants. I have a lot of plants around this house so I might give it to her.”
A third student who was also a junior, Sam Lewis stated, “I think plants are cool but I also like free stuff. I’m probably going to put it into a pot in my room. It’ll probably die pretty quickly though. I’m pretty busy.”
