Of all of those who table in the student center, I must say I appreciate the Girl Scouts and their cookies the most.

While I have recently been trying to avoid sugary foods, my interest was piqued on the evening of March 1 when I saw the Girl Scouts selling cookies. I immediately went to purchase some Samoas as they are my favorite, but I also saw a box labeled “Adventurefuls,” which is a cookie I had never heard of.

Adventurefuls are described as, “Indulgent brownie-inspired cookies with a caramel flavored crème and a hint of sea salt.” Samoas, also known as Caramel DeLites, are described as, “Crisp cookies with caramel, coconut, and dark chocolaty stripes.”

I definitely remember biting into a Samoa as a child. The combination of caramel, coconut and dark chocolate will always have a special taste in my heart. Biting down and feeling that crunch I have come to expect is nothing short of amazing. It is as if the Girl Scouts found the golden mean between being crunchy and being chewy. After every bite, I am left elated when I am still able to chew on the cookie for a while.

Although I always hear Thin Mints be described as the favorite Girl Scout cookie by those I ask, I do not think anything can compare to a Samoa. That perfect middle ground between hard and soft, sweet and savory, is just so wonderful. Aristotle himself would probably be proud of how the cookie does not choose an extreme.

Although Adventurefuls did not live up to what I expected, I still think it is a wonderful cookie too. They were a lot more crunchy than what I was expecting, which is fine. I just planned on biting down on something more chewy, like I did with the Samoas. Adventurefuls are still fantastic. Like the Samoas, there is an awesome mixture of sweet and savory. This is most likely due to the salt and caramel, which is always a wonderful thing to add to a cookie.

I still prefer the Samoas, but it was wonderful to give the Adventurefuls a try as I was not disappointed. I would say the two boxes of cookies I bought were definitely worth the $12 I paid. They were certainly great to try a few and then share amongst my friends.

While I am doing my best to eat healthier, it is also alright to have a few sweets sometimes. It is good to enjoy life and to allow yourself to eat what you like in moderation. I also recommend sharing your cookie boxes with your friends because they are likely to thank you, you will eat fewer cookies and it is overall just a nice thing to do.

I am very glad we have a college where the Girl Scouts can come and sell their wonderful cookies for students and staff alike to enjoy. It is definitely a pleasure to give money to the organization in exchange for some delicious cookies.
