Keene State men’s baseball brought home two wins following an intense weekend in Aberdeen, Md.
The Owls lost their first game against McDaniel College 20-5. However, KSC was quick at bat and won 9-4 versus Swathmore College and 7-2 Mount Aloysius College.
KSC was able to advance ahead of Swarthmore 2-1 with a four-run bottom of the third and a two-run double for junior Joseph Lucas and an RBI single from sophomore Alec Varano.
Swarthmore tied 4-4 in the sixth inning but the Owls batted even harder as they plated three by the bottom half. Sophomore Jonathan Chatfield pulled off a two-out, two-run single to make the score 7-4. So far, Chatfield has accumulated 28 RBI in 38 career games.
The eighth inning brought a run-scoring triple to center sophomore Evan Cali with another RBI by Chatfield.
The Owls closed out the weekend with Mount Aloysius as they led 5-0 by the third inning. Mount Aloysius did not get their first hit until the fifth inning and first-year Dylan Ellison stranded a pair in the fifth with his first debut strike out in a collegiate league.
The seventh inning had the Owls 7-0 with a pair of two-out runs and an RBI double from junior Shea Zina and a single by sophomore Hamilton Barnes, outhitting Mount Aloysius 12-4.
Keene State has an upcoming pair of doubleheaders against Trinity College on Saturday at 12 p.m. and University of St. Joseph on Sunday at 12 p.m.
